Nepal explosions kill one, injure 27

At least three bombs have exploded in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, killing one person and wounding 27 others.

In the worst incident, a device exploded on a bridge over the river Bishnumati injuring a number of passers-by, including some school children.

Maoist rebels, who have waged a six-year campaign to overthrow Nepal's constitutional monarchy, are suspected of being responsible.

A five-day general strike, called by the rebels, is due to start on Tuesday.

King Gyanendra has visited the site of one of the worst massacres in the campaign - the town of Achham in the west of the country, where some 140 people were killed by rebels last month.
