Celts bid to help terror attack victims
Celtic have a large following in America
Scottish champions-elect Celtic and Italian giants AC Milan could be set to clash in New York to raise money for the victims of the 11 September terror attacks.
An announcement is expected within the coming weeks over whether the match will go ahead. The Glasgow club are just one game away from clinching the Premier League title for the second year in a row.
Celtic are also in with a chance of completing the double when they face Old Firm rivals Rangers in the Scottish Cup final on 4 May. The club have a large following in America and it is thought that the chance for supporters to see their silverware would be certain to bring in the crowds. If the game with the Italian side goes ahead the money raised will go to the relatives of those killed in last year's terror attacks in the United States. A Celtic spokesman said: "It's an idea that we are looking at, but there's nothing certain. "There are still a few hurdles to overcome and maybe we will be in a position in a week to 10 days to make an announcement." |
