Cancer victim fights off carjackers
Police have warned of the dangers of fighting carjackers
A woman who is recovering from breast cancer has fought off a gang of armed carjackers.
Geraldine Bridgewood kicked and pushed the three men after they demanded the keys to her £28,000 Volvo outside her home in Prestwich, Greater Manchester. Police said Mrs Bridgewood, 41, hit out as one of the men threatened her with a monkey wrench. The noise alerted her husband and 18-year-old son who then chased the gang away. 'Nasty attack' Greater Manchester Police are appealing for help in finding the men who are described as white and aged around 20-years-old. The incident took place at 2100 GMT on Wednesday.
Speaking after the attack she said: "I'm no have-a-go-hero but I would do this again to protect my property. "The car is mine. Why should I hand it over to thieves?" Detective Inspector Jane Antrobus said: "This was an extremely nasty attack by organised criminals who wanted that vehicle. "Mrs Bridgewood was very brave in what she did but I would ask everyone to think of their own personal safety before challenging this type of dangerous criminal." |
