Indonesian police question bomb suspects
The police in Indonesia say they are questioning two men over a series of New Year church bombings in the troubled province of Central Sulawesi. Three churches in the town of Palu were rocked by simultaneous blasts as midnight struck on New Year, and another bomb exploded as worshippers gathered to celebrate mass later in the day. National police chief General Da'i Bachtiar said bomb-making equipment had been found at the house of one of the suspects. He said police were investigating whether the blasts were linked to the conflict between Muslims and Christians, which has claimed 1,000 lives over the past three years. Leaders from both communities agreed to work together for peace at a meeting before Christmas. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
