Walking in a winter Euroland
Euros with fish
Euros are being used for the first time
Britain once again watches from the sidelines, while 300 million Europeans embrace the euro, as notes and coins finally make it into circulation.

BBC correspondents from around Europe brought news of how people are managing the new currency.

Former chancellor Norman Lamont, who famously sang in the bath as Britain was ejected from the ERM, tells PM that he believes the fear factor surrounding the euro has now been dispelled.

However, he does not believe that Britain needs to be in Euroland, pointing to Germany as a major economy that has suffered as a result of its membership. He thinks that it is time for the prime minister to get on with the referendum on euro entry.

To gauge the reaction of the British travelling public to the new currency, PM reporter Terry Stiastny spoke to travellers in London's Waterloo station and got her own hands on some of the stuff too.

'Satanic' Potter

It is nothing new for Harry Potter to be criticised for his allegedly satanic overtones - but no-one has gone so far as burning his books.

Until now. Pastor Jack Brock, of the Christ Community Church in New Mexico, has ceremonially burned about 30 copies of the Potter books, denouncing them as satanic. He tells us why.

Fat gene

Scientists in the US claim to have discovered a way of blocking a 'fat' gene, which could give fresh hope for the treatment of the millions of obese people around the world.

The eminent geneticist Professor Steve Jones and fitness instructor Kathryn Shrodeski discuss the implications of the discovery.
