Belfast street party welcomes new year
Belfast City Council
The concert is a joint venture with Belfast City Council
Over 11,500 people have rung in the new year in Belfast at one of the biggest dance parties the city has ever seen.

BBC Radio One's Sara Cox entertained the crowds in a five and a half hour live broadcast that brought the revellers out for the biggest party of the year.

It is the first time the radio station has staged its annual event in the city.

Some of the country's top DJ's including Seb Fonatine and Sara Cox's husband Jon Carter had the young and the old dancing in the streets.

The Lord Mayor Jim Rodgers said it was a great night for Belfast.

The police said the event passed peacefully with only two people arrested for disorderly behaviour.

Chief Inspector Haylett praised the organisation of the event in particular and said the city council did a terrific job organising the stewards.
