Pakistan arrests top militant
Breaking News
Pakistan has arrested the head of one of the militant groups blamed by India for the suicide attack on its parliament on 13 December.

An official in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, said that Hafiz Mohammed Saeed, leader of Lashkar-e-Toiba, was arrested for inciting public unrest.

"He has been arrested for making inflammatory speeches to incite people to violate law and order," said the unnamed official, quoted by the French news agency AFP.

Lashkar-e-Toiba, which is fighting Indian rule in Kashmir, is accused by Delhi of organising the attack on its parliament on 13 December, an event which has brought the two countries close to war.

The group had its assets frozen last Monday.

The leader of another Pakistan-based militant group, Maulana Masood Azhar, was put under house arrest by the Pakistani authorities last week.

His group, Jaish-e-Mohammad, is also suspected by India of involvement in the attack on the parliament.
