Warning over icy conditions
Snow in Belfast
Temperatures to drop as low as minus five
The Northern Ireland Met Office has again warned of treacherous road conditions because of freezing temperatures.

It follows a weekend of snow which drifted in some rural areas and even caused problems in the towns and cities.

The snow showers filtered out on Sunday afternoon but a hard frost is expected to cause difficulties on the roads throughout Sunday night and Monday morning.

Weather forecasters have said the temperatures could drop as low as minus five.

The snow was not a problem for everyone
The snow that lay has not yet cleared in most areas and many country roads are hidden under the thick white blanket.

The areas affected are counties Down, Antrim, Tyrone and Londonderry.

Farmers were conscripted by the Roads Service to grit some rural routes.

Weekend sport

And, once again, the cold weather disrupted Northern Ireland's sporting fixtures.

Two games in the Smirnoff Premiership and three in the First Division were postponed.

The Premiership games called off were Crusaders v Coleraine at Seaview and Omagh v Newry at St Julian's Road.

The Crusaders game has been rescheduled for Tuesday 1 January at 1500 GMT.

Matches off in the First Division were Larne's home match against Dungannon Swifts, Ballymena United against Institute at the Showgrounds and Lisburn Distillery v Carrick.

Larne now plan to play Dungannon on Tuesday (1500 GMT).

The other seven Irish League games were able to go ahead.

Just one game in hockey's Senior League Section One survived - Newry v Mossley.

The All Ireland League Division Two game between Belfast Harlequins and Malone at Ormeau was called off.
