Three held after hijacking
Police in Belfast are questioning three men in connection with a car hijacking in the south of the city in which a police car was rammed.

Three men leaving a restaurant on Botanic Avenue confronted a man getting into his car in the early hours of Sunday.

One of the trio produced what was thought to be a pistol and seized the car.

A passing police patrol was flagged down and their vehicle was rammed as the three men tried to escape in the car.

Three men were arrested and a replica handgun was found in the stolen car.

The owner of the hijacked car was treated in hospital for minor injuries after he was assaulted during the incident.

Police want anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them in south Belfast.
