Pakistan denies troop redeployment
Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar says his country has not redeployed troops from its border with Afghanistan to boost defences against India.
But Mr Sattar refused to rule out the possibility if there was an imminent threat of force against Pakistan. In an interview with CNN, he said the government in Islamabad did not want to move the soldiers - engaged in operations to catch any of Osama bin Laden's fighters who flee across the Afghan frontier - but could not avoid considering doing so if the crisis with India continued to deteriorate. He urged the United States and other members of the United Nations Security Council to prevail upon India to exercise restraint. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
