Britain gripped by ice
Road clearing in Aberdeenshire
Northern Scotland has been badly affected
Revellers preparing for New Year celebrations are being warned to take care on the roads as sub-zero temperatures are forecast to continue for the next few days.

Forecasters predict overnight temperatures of between -8°C and -5°C across much of inland Britain on Sunday and Monday, bringing severe icy conditions.

But Scotland is bearing the brunt of the cold snap with lying snow keeping temperatures as low as -9°C.

In the Lothians, police divers recovered the body of a 19-year-old man who fell through ice at a reservoir near Edinburgh.

And the Scottish Sports Council Trust has issued a number of avalanche warnings on terrains above 2,788 feet (850 metres).

Electricity supplies to about 1,000 homes in the Highlands were cut off by fallen power lines after severe weather conditions on Saturday night

Northern England, the Midlands, north Wales and Northern Ireland are also badly affected by snow and ice and police warned drivers to take extreme care on the roads.

The M54 in Shropshire was reduced to two lanes on Sunday and hard-packed snow made driving hazardous on the M60 in Greater Manchester.

Meanwhile, one of Scotland's largest dance events, the Christmas Glam Party at the Aberdeen Exhibition Centre, was cancelled due to bad weather.

A number of top DJs had been due to perform, including Judge Jules and Dave Pearce, but fans will receive a full ticket refund from the point of purchase.
