Man bailed after hit-and-run questioning

Police have appealed for witnesses at the death scene
A man has been released on police bail after being questioned in connection with a hit-and-run incident in Caerphilly, south Wales in which a father-of-three died.

The 21-year-old local man was arrested on Friday, after the incident which took place on Thursday morning.

He was held in custody overnight at Caerphilly Police Station to help detectives with their inquiries.

Victim Joseph Curtis, 48, had been out with family and friends when he was struck by a silver-blue Toyota Celica.

The incident occured just before 0500GMT Thursday on Thomas Street in Abertridwr.

From Tan-y-bryn, Senghenydd, Mr Curtis leaves a wife and three daughters.

The owner of the vehicle has been traced by police and eliminated from their enquiries.

Investigations continue

Police say investigations are continuing into the incident, and Inspector Chris Norman has appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

"It's a busy time of year, and there was quite a bit of activity in the area," he added.

"I'm also anxious to trace any drivers or pedestrians who may have been in Thomas Street."

Accident investigators have been carrying out house-to-house inquiries near the scene.

The police spokesman said the force had been encouraged by the response from the public.
