Fujimori accused of bribing congressmen
Jailed former Peruvian intelligence chief Vladimiro Montesinos says he was following instructions from the then president, Alberto Fujimori, in running a bribery network that paid off politicians.
In videotaped testimony, Mr Montesinos told a congressional commission the former president gave the orders, and those below him carried them out. He said bribes were paid to congressmen to defect to Mr Fujimori's party, which was left short of a majority in the general elections in 2000. The Peruvian president claimed asylum in Japan last year after a series of secret videos apparently showed Mr Montesinos paying off politicians. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service
