Man dies in road accident
The man who was killed in a road accident in County Down on Thursday was Kevin McCrossan from Newry.
Mr McCrossan's brother was injured in the accident which happened on the main Dublin Road near Cloghogue shortly after 2100 GMT. His condition is described as "seriously ill but stable" in Daisy Hill hospital in Newry. The 32-year-old victim is from Patrick Street in Newry. Fire officer Michael McAteer helped free the men from the wreckage of their car. 'Trapped' "When we arrived it was complete darkness, the weather was extremely bad and the road conditions were atrocious, the road was very very wet," he said. "But it seems the car had actually travelled across the road, collided with a tree and then rolled down an embankment and landed on its roof. "We discovered two persons were trapped inside and we managed to extricate the persons within a matter of minutes whereupon they were stretchered to awaiting ambulances and taken to Daisy Hill Hospital." |
