Indonesia rail bosses resign
All six directors of Indonesia's state-owned railway company have resigned, following the collision of two trains in Java on Tuesday in which more than 40 people were killed. Two Indonesian Government ministers who oversee the rail network announced the resignations, but correspondents say the ministers have avoided suggestions that they too should step down. The government says it plans to revamp the rail company's management and audit its financial, operational and security activities. The Indonesian railways have suffered several train crashes this year, with about 100 people killed. Some analysts suggest it is a dramatic example of the poor management of Indonesian state companies. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
