Double-parked driver kills six

Six people have been killed in central New York, when they were hit by a delivery van, outside the famous Macy's department store on 34th Street in midtown Manhattan.

Police said the van driver, who was double-parked, had been ordered to move on; he started abruptly, hitting a crowd of pedestrians before colliding with a bus.

As well as the six who died, at least eight other people were injured.

The New York police said the 77-year-old driver had been detained for questioning.
