Police have appealed for witnesses at the death scene
Police are looking for the driver of a silver-blue Toyota Celica after a father-of-three was killed in a hit-and-run incident near Caerphilly.

Joseph William Curtis, 48, was struck by a car just before 0500 GMT Thursday on Thomas Street in Abertridwr.

He was from Tan-y-bryn, Senghenydd, and leaves a wife and three daughters.

He had been out with friends and family - now receiving counselling from police - when he was hit by the car.

Gwent Police are not approaching the Toyota driver as a suspect.

But they say the driver, who was in the area between 0445 and 0515 GMT, could provide useful information.

Inspector Chris Norman said the X-registration vehicle was travelling between Abertridwr and Trecenydd.

"It's a busy time of year, and there was quite a bit of acitvity in the area," he added.

"I'm also anxious to trace any drivers or pedestrians who may have been in Thomas Street."

Accident investigators have been carrying out house-to-house inquiries near the scene.

They are also appealing for any witnesses.

The police spokesman said the force had been encouraged by the response from the public.
