Man arrested after boat party death
A man who died at a party on board a boat has been named as 53-year-old Tony Cager from Plymouth.
A Bristol man is being questioned by detectives following the death on the Balmoral paddle steamer at the weekend. The 37-year-old from Henbury was arrested on suspicion of murder. A private wedding anniversary party was being held on the boat, moored at Princes Bridge in Bristol, on Saturday night.
Cliff walker missing A man is missing after going for a cliff walk in east Devon. Coastguards and a helicopter have helped in the search between Budleigh Salterton and Landram Bay. Police say the 40-year-old is an experienced walker. He was last seen wearing a grey fleece, blue sweatshirt, jeans and walking boots.
Mystery over street death Plymouth detectives are continuing inquiries around the Black Prince pub in Laira Place, after a man was found dead in the street. The 40-year-old's body was discovered early on Saturday morning. Police believe the man had been drinking in the pub the previous evening. A post mortem examination proved inconclusive, but the death is being treated as suspicious.
Schools consultation ends A consultation about the biggest shake-up in the history of Bristol's schools comes to an end on Monday. Closing and merging some of the cities secondary schools are among proposals in the consultation, which has been running since July. More than half a dozen other schools may also be expanded. Bristol City Council says the first changes will be in place by September 2002.
"Spooky" insurance policy A Bristol firm is offering insurance to cover the cost of an attack by a ghost or an encounter with aliens. Specialist insurer Ultraviolet will pay out up to £100,000 under its Spooksafe policy for death, injury or damage to personal affects caused by ghosts or poltergeists. The group will insure people against being changed into a vampire or werewolf. Ultraviolet said since it has written around 500 policies so far this year, mainly in California. |
