Russian peacekeeper killed in Kosovo

A Russian peacekeeper, who had left his unit without permission, has been killed in a village in eastern Kosovo.

The man was shot in the back of his head, and his body found in the yard of a private house.

The Russian authorities said reasons behind the killing are unclear, but representatives of the Nato-led peacekeepers indicated it is unlikely to have been politically motivated.

They say the body was found by a patrol that had earlier received a call about someone harassing a woman.
