Man arrested over kidnap ordeal
South Yorkshire Police logo
A man is due to be flown from Northern Ireland to Yorkshire after being arrested in connection with the abduction and rape of a student in Sheffield.

The 38-year-old man was arrested by Royal Ulster Constabulary Officers in Newry on Wednesday.

Officers from South Yorkshire Police travelled to Ulster to bring the man to Moss Way police station.

Detective Superintendent Kev Hardy said that the 19-year-old student was subjected to "horrific sexual assaults, including rape" during a two-day ordeal.

The woman told police she was dragged into the graveyard at about 0230 BST on Friday in Cemetery Road, Sharrow, where she was indecently assaulted by a man.

She was then forced into a nearby car and driven to an address where she was subjected to further sexual assaults over a period of two days.

The man drove her back to Cemetery Road and released her on Saturday evening.
