Mozambique talks on economic plans

The World Bank has announced that some of its repesentatives will hold a two-day meeting with Mozambican government officials, starting tomorrow Thursday.

The talks in the Mozambican capital, Maputo, are to assess progress in the government's poverty reduction and development programmes, and to examine the country's future financial requirements.

Planning and Finance Minister Luisa Diogo said on Wednesday that at least $600m a year, for the next few years, was needed for its programmes to succeed. Mozambique has been implementing a structural adjustment programme backed by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund since 1987.
