'Assault' was caught on camera
The scene by the police car was caught on camera
A police force's three-month internal inquiry has been completed following allegations that an officer was caught on film kicking and punching a man.
The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) has received a report from West Yorkshire Police into the alleged attack on Chris Wilson, 26, outside his home in Wakefield on 24 July. The police officer, who has not been named, was apparently seen on a video kicking Mr Wilson in the groin before repeatedly punching him in the face. Another officer was said to have stood by and watched as his colleague allegedly kneed Mr Wilson in the back and dragged him by his hair to a patrol car. Bedroom window The incident was recorded on a video camera by a man who was standing at a bedroom window as he watched events in the street below. A PCA spokesman said: "Once we are satisfied that the investigation has been completed fairly and thoroughly the report will be passed on to the Crown Prosecution Service." He said it would then be up to the CPS to decide whether to prosecute one or both officers. "If the CPS decides not to prosecute, West Yorkshire Police will then decide whether or not there should be any misconduct proceedings," he added. Held overnight A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said since the allegations were made both officers had been "withdrawn from duties which might mean bringing them into contact with members of the public". Music student Mark Goodwin, 21, who filmed the incident, said at the time he was left physically "shaking" by what he had seen and wanted "justice to be done". Mr Wilson, an unemployed joiner, was held overnight in a police cell and charged with being drunk and disorderly. The charge was dropped a few days later. |
