Wanchope in clear over ball boy 'clash'

No action will be taken by police who investigated an alleged match clash between Manchester City's striker Paulo Wanchope and a ball boy.

It had been reported that he knocked a 15-year-old ball boy during a game at Norwich's Carrow Road ground in August.

Officers began an inquiry after the 25-year-old Costa Rican was alleged to have knocked the youngster as he attempted to retrieve a ball five minutes from the end of the game.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Police said all the available evidence, including video footage, had been examined by the Crown Prosecution Service.

It had been decided that no further action was needed.

Mr Wanchope, who began his English football career with Derby in 1997, was sent off for a second bookable offence minutes after the alleged incident.

He moved to Manchester City from West Ham last season.
