Teenage girl in 'drug' death
Hull Royal Infirmary
Tammy Pooley died in Hull Royal Infirmary
Police investigating the death of a teenage girl believe she may have taken Ecstasy tablets.

Tammy Pooley was found unconscious at a flat in Hull on Friday evening.

The 15-year-old, who was under the care of social services, was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary where she later died.

Two men, aged 17 and 27, both from Hull, have been arrested in connection with the incident

Detective Inspector Alan Brookes, who is leading the investigation, said it appeared Tammy took the Class A drug in the hours before her death.

Mr Brookes told BBC News Online: "I feel it's the tragic waste of a young life and someone who has been unable to fulfill their potential quite unnecessarily.

"Her family are devastated by the news.

"You don't expect a 15-year-old to be taken away in these circumstances."

Mr Brookes said Tammy was found unconscious at a flat in Diadem Grove, Bilton Grange in Hull.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services and doctors, she died in hospital at 2115 BST.

'Tragic event'

Police are awaiting results of toxicology tests to determine the exact cause of death after a post-mortem examination proved inconclusive.

Tammy, who attended Ashwell Pupil Referral Unit in Ashwell Avenue, Hull, lived in a care home.

Jan Didrichsen, director of social services at Kingston-upon-Hull City Council, said: "This was a very tragic event and everyone involved with Tammy is extremely upset at what has happened.

"I have been informed by the police that her death may have been drugs-related and, if this turns out to be correct, it demonstrates the very real dangers of substance misuse.

"I hope whoever supplied Tammy with drugs is quickly apprehended and dealt with accordingly."

The arrested men have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
