Ivory Coast tax deal on cocoa

A dispute over taxes on cocoa and coffee exports in Ivory Coast has been resolved, paving the way for a resumption of shipments.

Exporters had refused to ship their products from early this month after higher taxes were introduced - and tens of thousands of tonnes of cocoa beans from the previous season have still been lying in the country's warehouses.

The government has now promised to apply the old, cheaper taxes to beans bought before the start of the current season.

Ivory Coast is the world's largest cocoa producer.
