Woman in two-day kidnap ordeal

A 19-year-old student from Sheffield has been left traumatised after she was abducted and sexually assaulted during a two-day ordeal.

South Yorkshire Police say the woman was subjected to "horrific sexual assaults".

The woman was dragged into the graveyard in the Sharrow area of Sheffield where she was indecently assaulted by a man before being forced into a nearby car and driven to a building.

Detective Superintendent Kev Hardy said the student was then raped and subjected to further sexual assaults over a period of two days before being released.

'Total disregard'

The woman was said to be "extremely traumatised" by the incident which started at 0230 BST on Friday.

Mr Hardy said: "This was a sustained serious sexual assault and as bad as you can imagine.

"It's the worst rape I've ever dealt with and I've dealt with a lot."

Mr Hardy said the student was taken to an address - believed to be outside Sheffield - in a bright red five-door car after the initial assault in the cemetery grounds.

Warning that the attacker could strike again, the detective appealed for any women who may have been subjected to sex attacks in the area to come forward.

"Without wanting to panic people, this man showed total disregard for her and has the potential to strike again," added Mr Hardy

"My advice to students in that area is to walk in groups and be vigilant."
