Indian state increases security for MNCs
The authorities in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh have tightened security for multinational firms following an attack on a Coca-Cola bottling plant by an outlawed left-wing rebel group.
Police said that in the attack on Sunday, the militants - known as the People's War Group - left a note warning of further attacks against western companies. They said that the attack was in retaliation for the US-led military action in Afghanistan and American imperialism. Police said they will post pickets, and patrol sensitive areas. Companies have been asked to strengthen their own security. In the attack on Sunday, militants threw explosives at the Coco-Cola plant in Atmakuru near the coastal city of Vijayawada. No one was injured in the blast. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
