In pictures: Ground attack
The US Pentagon has shown grainy video clips of the first ground operation in Afghanistan when special forces dropped deep into Taleban territory in southern Afghanistan on Friday night.
They attacked a compound belonging to the Taleban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar near the group's stronghold of Kandahar, and an airfield south-west of the city.

![]() Using night goggles the Rangers conducted a building by building search, gathering intelligence.
