Brazil hosts regional environment conference

Environment ministers and officials from across Latin America and the Caribbean have gathered in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro for a conference aimed at tackling the regions' most pressing environmental concerns.

During the four-day meeting, which started on Sunday, delegates will discuss a wide range of issues, including deforestation, biodiversity and urban environmental problems.

They are also expected to look at ways of harmonising environmental legislation across the region and developing mechanisms to finance conservation projects.
