Man, 49, dies in house fire
The cause of the blaze is being investigated
A 49-year-old man has died and five other people have been treated in hospital following a fire.
The emergency services were called to the blaze at a house in King's Park Avenue, in Glasgow's King's Park area, at around 0630 BST on Saturday. Three people were rescued from a first floor at the back of the house by emergency crews, and another two people made their own way out. A police spokesman said the dead man, who will not be named until relatives have been informed, was found dead in an upstairs room.
Fire crews said an initial investigation had revealed no smoke alarm had been fitted. Senior divisional fire officer John Walker said: "Having the earliest possible indication of a fire gives you more chance to escape and more chance to save your life. "The best way to do that is have a smoke alarm fitted, make sure it has a battery fitted and make sure you service it regularly." A 53-year-old woman is in a stable condition in Glasgow Royal Infirmary suffering from burns to her arms and hands legs. The other four people were released after treatment. Fire officers are still trying to establish the cause of the blaze. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. |
