Ex-minister on genocide charge

A former Rwandan finance minister has pleaded not guilty to charges of genocide and crimes against humanity at the international criminal tribunal in Arusha, Tanzania.

Emmanuel Ndindabahizi, who was finance minister during the genocide of 1994, was arrested in Belgium in July and transferred to Arusha last month.

The prosecution alleges that he instigated a campaign of mass killings of Tutsi civilians in the Kibuye district of western Rwanda. Eight-hundred-thousand Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed by Hutu extremists between April and July 1994.
