Pulp: Your views
Pulp
Are Pulp still a different class?
Pulp were the darlings of Britpop in the mid-90s but it has been nearly four years since the release of their last album, This Is Hardcore.

Now they are back with the exuberantly titled, We Love Life.

"We Love Life loses steam a little in the second half, despite the epic closing flourish of Sunrise, and stops short of being the full-blown triumph it could have been," says the BBC's Nigel Packer.

"But its arrival will come as a welcome relief to fans deprived for too long of Pulp's intelligence and flair."

Is the party over for the Britpop generation? Or have Pulp moved on by producing a seminal album for the millennium?

HAVE YOUR SAY

I heard a few tracks from the album at Reading earlier this year, and they all seemed a little too bland and content. Jarvis is at his best when being an angry urban lad, and seems as out of place in this rural idyll as Samuel L. Jackson does playing golf in Carnoustie.

It's great.

Fantastic album - just what we needed to take our minds off Armageddon! It is nice to see that Jarvis's unique combination of the banal and the beautiful hasn't changed at all - Bad Cover Version is a gorgeous up-tempo track full of amusing pop-culture references whilst Birds in Your Garden is just lush. I dare you to not like this album.
Johnny Clifford, UK

I love Jarvy! Pulp are fantastic and this album is a great step in another direction for them.
Natalie Kauder, UK

I was pleasently surprised. They've once again built on their already diverse sound, which is pleasant in this age of formulaic music. And to top it all off, the artwork is great too. It does, admittedly, tail off a bit towards the end, but that isn't enough to make you forget the excellent first six songs.
Duncan Stephen, UK

To be honest, it looks like Pulp have got lost in the woods. Sorry, Jarv, it may satisfy some die-hard fans (I quite like it) but it's about as commercial as a New Kids on the Block B-sides LP.
Graham Hughes, UK

A step back into the right direction after the anti-commercial This is Hardcore. Strong, solid and classic in places. Looks as though Jarvis has just about still got a career (for now).
Mark Ledder, UK

Sorry Jarvis and friends. This is Hardcore will remain your finest achievement. Dark introspection is far preferable to incoherent messaging on refugees etc. What have you been doing for four years?
Chris, UK
