Arrests over pub firework attack
Inside the Crown and Cushion
Glasses were broken as the fireworks went off
Three people have been arrested in connection with a firework attack on a West Midlands pub in which more than 60 Roman candles were thrown in to the bar.

No-one was seriously injured in the attack on the Crown and Cushion pub in West Bromwich but at the time police said they were treating the incident as racially-motivated.

The landlord of the pub in Lloyd Street said that it was extremely fortunate that drinkers were not seriously hurt as the fireworks exploded in the lounge area of the pub.

The three men, all from the West Bromwich area, are also being questioned about a similar attack on a nearby restaurant.

Exploding fireworks

Michael Jelf, the pub landlord, said someone stepped in to the pub and threw the lighted fireworks in to the bar.

The fireworks began to explode, landing on chairs and curtains and breaking glasses, said Mr Jelf.

"The place quickly filled with smoke and everybody just ran out of the back door and got out of the way," he said.

"There wasn't that much damage. Glasses were broken and the fireworks landed on upholstery and curtains but didn't set fire to them."

Police said the package contained 64 Roman candles that were made in to a block which broke down into individual fireworks.

There were about 20 people in the pub at the time of the attack, which happed just before 2100 BST on Tuesday.

Two people were slighty hurt.
