Arcanum: Your views
Arcanum
Arcanum requires a powerful computer
Arcanum is a new role-playing computer game which revolves around the on-going conflict in a fantasy world between the opposing forces of "magick" and technology.

You can change roles rather than having to stick with one from the beginning, there are a vast number of quests to follow and lots of interaction with in-game characters.

"There is a lot of wandering around almost empty maps, too much talking to people to get anywhere, and combat can be deadly for starting characters," wrote BBC News Online technology correspondent Mark Ward.

He added: "But all this is outweighed by Arcanum's playability, detail and huge scope. It looks set to become a classic."

But what do you think?

How does it compare to other role-playing games? Do you agree that it will become a PC classic?

HAVE YOUR SAY

Just horrible. Have been playing EverQuest for the last 2 - 3 years, thought I would pick up Arcanum. After a few hours playing it I gave up. I felt as if I was taking a step back in computer gaming. However, I have just bought Dark Age of Camelot - initial thoughts are that this is a truly amazing game.

Great game - almost finished it. My brother is already playing it a second time. Probably not as good as the Fallout series, but then there are not many games that can even compare. You can see the influence of the Fallout designers in Arcanum. Definitely a classic.

It is a very playable game, but the Baldur's Gate series is far better. There is a lot of wandering around places where you have already been and the inventories are too small and not very intuitive. If you are new to role-playing games, try Baldur's Gate 2. If you have completed the Baldur's Gate Series, this is certainly worth getting as a fill-in for those cold wintry nights.

I think its a smashing game, I'm addicted and I can't stop playing it!
