Spies at Work
With workplace theft running to tens of millions, companies increasingly turn to the skills of the undercover investigator - the mole.

He or she works ostensibly as an ordinary employee, but is in reality a detective spying on workmates.

Lying to a thief isn't a problem. If the guy's stealing off the premises then it's a small price to pay. .

"Dominic"

The Money Programme has interviewed two top moles, "Dominic" and "Scott", and their employer, investigator Paul Burton. We've also had unique access to the files on some of their operations.

The programme will look in detail at their methods and the results they achieve. It will ask whether undercover spies can get too involved in the workplace crimes they investigate, and if such deception is desirable - or morally dubious.

After all, your most trusted colleague at the desk next to you could actually be a mole.

Spies at Work will be broadcast on BBC 2 19.30BST 24th October 2001
