City needs more bus drivers

A new timetable and routes have caused confusion
Bus passengers in Nottingham have been promised that problems with cancelled services will end as soon as the city solves its bus-driver shortage.

There has been a stream of complaints since the biggest shake-up in the city's transport history two weeks ago.

Nottingham City Transport has promised to put an another 100 bus drivers on the road as soon as possible.

Since the introduction of new routes and timetables, there have been problems with the predictability of the new service.

More drivers are being trained

In some cases, buses have failed to turn up due to a driver shortage.

The city said it is putting new drivers through its training school and 25 should be on the road by the end of the month.

But the company admits that a total of 100 are needed.

The full complement of drivers may not be recruited and trained until next year.

The city has had better success with another innovation to its service - colour-coded buses.

The colours are meant to make it easier to identify buses coming down the street.

Passengers are better able to see which service is about to arrive.
