Man in court on Leanne murder charge
Leanne Tiernan
Leanne's body was found in August
A 45-year-old man accused of kidnapping and murdering Leanne Tiernan has been remanded in custody by magistrates in West Yorkshire.

John Taylor, of Cockshott Drive, Bramley in Leeds is charged with kidnapping and killing 16-year-old Leanne on 26 November.

The parcel delivery worker was flanked by two security officers as he appeared for a three-minute hearing in the city.

The divorced father-of-two stood in the dock wearing a blue Parcelforce jacket, a pink and white checked shirt and blue tracksuit bottoms.

Book in hand

He held a book in his hand and only spoke to confirm his name, give his address, his date of birth and to confirm he understood the charges.

There was no application for bail and he will appear at Leeds Crown Court on 25 October.

Reporting restrictions were not lifted.

In August Leanne's partly decomposed body was found by a man walking his dog in Lindley Wood near Otley.

She had been missing since November, when she was last seen by a friend after a shopping trip in Leeds city centre.

Leanne's 19-year-old sister Michelle attended the court hearing and sat in the public gallery.
