Afroman set for chart high
Kylie has a number one album and single
Kylie Minogue's reign at the top of the charts looks sets to end as a song about drug taking is on target for number one.
Midweek chart figures show Afroman's Because I Got High is outselling Minogue's Can't Get You Out of My Head, which has topped the charts for four weeks.
She has also just announced a UK arena tour, kicking off in Cardiff on 29 April, 2002. Afroman was forced to edit the "risqué content" of his single to make it suitable for radio play. But is has benefited from a considerably amount of airplay and has been championed by a number of Radio 1 DJs. 'Messed up' The Mississippi singer tells a cautionary tale about the constant apathy that results from cannabis use. Afroman has defended the lyrics, saying the final verse shows the damage drugs can do. The song signs off: "I messed up my entire life because I got high, I lost my kids and wife because I got high, now I'm sleeping on the sidewalk and I know why, because I got high." Minogue's chartbusting single, the first taken from the album Fever, has already seen off competition from Victoria Beckham and most recently Michael Jackson. Britney Spears' experiment with a new sound appears to be paying off as her release I'm a Slave 4 U looks like entering the chart at number three. |
