Decomposing body found in flat
Strathclyde Police headquarters
Police said the body had lain for some time
A murder hunt has been launched by police in Glasgow following the discovery of a decomposing body in a flat in the city.

The victim was found in a tenement flat in Lily Street, in the Barrowfield area of the city, at about 1400 BST on Tuesday.

The victim who lived alone has been named as Richard Campbell, 40.

A Strathclyde force spokesperson said: "It would appear that the body had been lying for some time."

It is thought Mr Campbell died from head injuries.

His remains were found by a council worker, who then contacted the police.

A police spokeswoman added: "Following a post-mortem examination we are treating this as a murder inquiry."

Police said they were continuing door-to-door inquiries in the area and had set up an incident room at London Road police office.

Detective Chief Inspector David Johnston, the officer in charge of the investigation, said inquiries were at an early stage and appealed for anyone who may have known Mr Campbell to contact the incident room.
