Four killed in Danish tunnel crash
Map of Denmark
At least four people have been killed and 10 injured in a crash near a road tunnel in southern Denmark.

Police said several vehicles were set on fire after a lorry crashed into a car shortly after leaving the Guldborgsund tunnel which links the islands of Falster and Lolland.

Eight more vehicles piled into the crashed car and lorry and sparked more multiple collisions.

The injured were taken to hospital in Nykoping Falster, five of them were in a serious condition.

Fog blamed

Police have blamed the crash on poor visibility caused by thick fog.

"Our officers who arrived first to the scene said they could just see the tip of the bonnet of the cars," Deputy Chief Superintendent Knud Rasmussen said.

Ambulances, fire engines and rescue vehicles with cutting equipment were rushed to the scene to help release people trapped in their vehicles.

One of the lorries involved had been transporting pigs and witnesses said dead animals were scattered across the highway.

The tunnel was closed and traffic was re-routed across nearby bridges.
