Huge cocaine haul at UK airport
The plane had come from the Caribbean
Cocaine with a value of more than £32m has been seized in one of Britain's biggest drugs hauls yet, customs officers have said.
Over 500 kilos of the drug were dumped out of the back of an cargo plane in six huge suitcases as it landed at Southend airport in Essex on Tuesday. The drugs were immediately seized by customs officers when the ageing Boeing 707 landed at 2100BST. Five air crew and one airport worker - all believed to be men - were arrested. They were transported to London, where they are due to be interviewed on Wednesday morning. A Customs spokesman said: "It is one of the largest seizures ever made in the UK. "This sort of seizure we usually only make abroad."
