Millionaire 'winner' denies fraud
Major Charles Ingram
The arrest is not connected to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
The Army major accused of cheating on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? has denied deception after he was arrested over insurance allegations.

Charles Ingram was arrested on Monday on suspicion of submitting a false claim to his insurance company following a break-in at his Wiltshire home.

But he strongly denies any wrongdoing in the matter, which is unrelated to allegations of cheating on the ITV1 quiz show.

Major Ingram is at the centre of a police investigation after Millionaire? programme-makers suspected others may have aided his £1m win.

Celador stopped the winning cheque after production staff said they heard coughing during his appearance, which has yet to be screened.

Bail

The 38-year-old Royal Engineer denies any cheating was involved in his win and he is locked in legal proceedings to release the money.

Major Ingram's solicitors Morgan Cole confirmed he was arrested but in a statement said their client "strongly denies any improprieties".

The major has been released on bail until 4 December while further inquiries are carried out.

The allegations arise from a £30,000 claim he made after he said his home was broken into in August, The Sun newspaper reports.

But his insurance company refused to pay until police were satisfied there has been no wrongdoing.

The Ministry of Defence said the major had not been suspended from duty because "had not been found guilty of anything".
