Michael Douglas - star of Wonder Boys and Fatal Attraction - turned up at a charity auction of celebrity memorabilia in London.

Douglas's wife actress Catherine Zeta Jones had donated a lot to the auction for Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood (Clic) at Christie's.

The actor successfully bid £1,000 to buy a self-portrait by ex-Genesis and solo singer Phil Collins.

A diamante-studded stars-and-stripes T-shirt worn by Madonna on her recent Drowned World Tour fetched £9,500.

Funds raised will go towards Clic's Home from Home appeal, providing accommodation for the families of children who have to live away from home to have long-term treatment.

A spokeswoman for the charity declared its delight with the evening, which was expected to bring in more than £100,000.

"It was an absolutely fabulous night with a great result," she said.

Madonna's T-shirt, designed by Catherine Malandrino, was worn by the star on a bucking bronco while singing Tell Me during her last world tour.

A Harley Davidson motorbike, donated by UK Formula One team boss Eddie Jordan, sold with his wife Marie's leather jacket, went for £19,000 at the auction.

An embroidered dress worn to the Oscars by Donnatella Versace went for £14,000 while a guitar signed by the Bee Gees picked up £4,200.

Sunglasses belonging to U2's Bono and Chris de Burgh's hand-written lyrics to hit Lady In Red, which went for £3,200, were also be on sale.

All are personal items in keeping with the theme of the auction, From Me to You.
