Police step up hunt for road rage killer
Crimewatch reconstruction
The attack was reconstructed for Crimewatch UK
Police have increased the number of officers trying to find the man who killed a Plymouth man in a suspected road rage attack.

Colin Beer, 42, died after being assaulted by a car driver in the North Hill area of the city in June.

Four months after his death, the killer has still not been found.

Mr Beer had been walking in and out of traffic after leaving a pub in the Mutley Plain area on Saturday 9 June.

It is believed he made contact with a wing mirror of a blue Peugeot 406 which led to a confrontation moments later.

A man parked his car, got out and hit Mr Beer, who fell and struck his head on the ground.

His skull was fractured in the fall, at the junction of Headland Park Road and North Hill. He later died in hospital.

Police then launched a murder inquiry.

Since then, police have studied thousands of vehicle records of similar cars and ruled out every car matching this description in Devon and Cornwall.

The incident was also reconstructed for television and featured on the Crimewatch UK programme.

But despite the hard work, neither the car nor the killer has yet been found.

All cars matching the description in England, Scotland and Wales are now being traced.

Student help

Detective Inspector Mark Webster, who is heading the investigation, said there are now more police officers working on the case and it is not being scaled down.

He said: "We've increased the number of staff. We are committed to finding the user of that vehicle."

He has also appealed to any students in the area who may have information to come forward.

He said: "Any student that may have gone home for the summer period and may have seen something but not reported it should get in contact.
