Court appearances after Nigeria violence

Police in the northern Nigerian city of Kano say around one-hundred-and-fifty people have appeared in court in connection with violence and looting at the weekend.

Police say they arrested more than two-hundred-and-eighty people in connection with the clashes, which took place between Muslim and Christian gangs.

Meanwhile, the largest market in Kano -- Sabon Gari -- has re-opened for the first time since the clashes, after an agreement reached by leaders of the two communities. Traders returned to their shops and stalls, many of them burnt down and looted.

The Red Cross says more than one-hundred people were killed in the clashes, but police say the number of deaths was eighteen.
