Stolen car charge after PC biker's death
A man has appeared in court charged with stealing a car which was later involved in a crash in which a police motorcyclist died.

PC Malcolm Walker, 45, died when his bike was in collision with a Peugeot 406 in the Perry Barr area of Birmingham on 4 October.

On Monday, Emmanuel Ebanks, 23, of Raleigh Close, Handsworth, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court charged with stealing the car.

He is accused of stealing the vehicle from a garage forecourt in Beeches Road, Great Barr, on 4 October.

Mr Ebanks, who stood in the dock flanked by two police officers, was refused bail by the district judge and was remanded in custody until 22 October.

PC Walker, a father of four, began his police career at Wednesbury where he was based for 11 years before moving to CID and latterly traffic duty.

A special fund has been set up to help his wife Helen and their children who are aged between 10 and 19.
