Bailey collects CBE
David Bailey
Bailey: Began photography while in the RAF
The Prince of Wales has honoured stars from the arts and entertainment at an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

The highly acclaimed photographer David Bailey collected a CBE for services to art, and there were awards too for Joan Armatrading and architect Terry Farrell.

The 63-year-old is known as the "image maker" of the 1960s, making stars of Jean Shrimpton, Catherine Deneuve and others.

"It was great," said Bailey of the ceremony.

"It was really like a piece of history."

Singer and songwriter Joan Armatrading was similarly thrilled to receive her MBE.

'Incredible work'

The 50-year-old singer of Love and Affection, Drop the Pilot and Rosie said she was "particularly pleased" to have received the honour from Prince Charles.

"I just think he is a great guy and he has done such incredible work with the Prince's Trust."

Armatrading added that she has had an excellent year, having just graduated with a BA Honours in history.

Terry Farrell
Farrell wants to remove Buckingham Palace walls
Sir Terry Farrell, who designed the arch roof over Charing Cross station in London and the high-profile MI6 building, was knighted at the investiture ceremony.

Sir Terry is known to be critical of the architecture of Buckingham Palace, and said earlier in the year that the walls were of "unrelieved blank hostile solidity".

Prince Charles is known to have a keen interest in architecture and Sir Terry said it was "wonderful" to meet him.

"He has a great interest in architecture and urban design which are very much my field," he said.

But Sir Terry added that he stood by his remarks about Buckingham Palace.
