Mozambique bank death

The Mozambican Government says it will provide whatever resources are necessary to investigate the death of the president of the largest commercial bank, Austral, Antonio Siba Siba.

Mr Siba Siba's body was found on Saturday after he'd apparently fallen six floors, but police say there's evidence suggesting he was killed.

Correspondents link the death to elements opposed to the Austral Bank being handed over to a South African financial giant, ABSA.

The government had appointed Mr Siba Siba to manage the bank while it awaited re-privatisation.

The Mozambican prime minister, Pascoal Mocumbi, said the death would not dissuade the government from re-privatising commercial banks.
