Ethnic clashes in Kenya
Residents in the Rift Valley in Kenya are fleeing fighting between the Masai and Kisii people. Five people have been killed and 10 others injured since the outbreak of clashes at the weekend. A BBC correspondent who visited Kisii said women and children were leaving the area. Our correspondent says security forces have been noticeably absent. The latest clashes broke out after members of the Masai community illegally occupied Kisii farms and started harvesting their crops. There has been a cycle of violence in the Rift valley between the two communities, which correspondents say is politically motivated. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
