Burma frees two more opposition activists
The military authorities in Burma have released two more opposition activists from detention - Duwar Zaw Aung and Daw San San. About 150 political prisoners have been freed so far this year. The releases come amid long-running talks between the military government and the opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi. She is still under virtual house arrest. The opposition National League for Democracy won elections in Burma in 1990, but the military has never allowed it to take power. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
